KUCHING: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) was kept busy this morning after responding to two fire incidents reported at separate places.

The first incident happened around 1.07am and involved a rented room on the first floor of a bakery shophouse along Jalan Padungan.

Firemen from Padungan and Tabuan Jaya stations were promptly dispatched to the scene.

Upon arriving, the room was about 25 per cent damaged and extinguishing works followed suit.

No injuries or casualties were reported as a male tenant managed to get out to safety.

About an hour or so later, firemen from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang stations were directed to another fire incident involving a workers’ quarters at Kampung Sungai Tapang, Mile 7.

Upon arrival, they confirmed that a warehouse used to store second-hand lorries and had been turned into a workers’ quarter had caught fire and extinguishing works followed suit.

The quarter, occupied by two workers who managed to save themselves, was beyond saving.

After ensuring that the situation was safe and no fire remnants were left at both locations, the teams departed back to their stations.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred for both cases are still under investigation.
