MUKAH: Weighing scales used by traders must be verified once in every 12 months and valid for 12 months only after the date of verification.

It is aimed at ensuring accuracy of weighing thereby protecting consumers from being short-changed.

Head of Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Mukah branch, Salihin Den, said the verification is done by an appointed company, Metrology Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd, which is based in Sibu to cater for the central region.

“The Ministry will monitor whether verification has been done by the company according to the schedule and date specified by it,” he said via WhatsApp on Tuesday (June 30).

According to him, the company would travel to Mukah, Dalat and other places to conduct the verification of weighing scales.

He said the company would inform the date and time of verification to the traders before coming over.

Salihin added that if the scale is repaired, it has to be re-verified as required under the Weights and Measures Act 1972.
