SRI AMAN: A four-wheel drive vehicle was burnt by a welding machine spark at KM-35, Pungu, Jalan Sri Aman-Serian, today.

Sri Aman Zone Three Fire and Rescue chief Ramlan Marajan confirmed that the Isuzu D-Max vehicle along with the generator set were completely destroyed in the incident at about 3.03pm.

“Based on reports at the location, the incident occurred when a man was doing welding work on an excavator.

“The fire is believed to have been caused by sparks from a welding machine that fell into the rear compartment of the vehicle, and then hit the oil in the compartment,” he said in a statement today.

He added, the man tried to extinguish the fire but failed because the fire was getting bigger.

However, Ramlan said, the fire was put out completely by the emergency response team belonging to the Pan Borneo Highway construction company, Gamuda using water supply from a tanker truck that happened to be nearby.
