DALAT: The newly completed Dalat District Welfare Complex here, when fully operational this year, will become a melting pot for the old, young, able-bodied as well as disabled persons.

Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said the RM12.5 million building was approved by former chief minister, the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem.

She added that the components comprised the welfare office, senior citizens activity centre, community-based rehabilitation centre, children nursery centre and older children activity centre.

“We look forward to the complex, as a place for inter-generation interaction between the old and the young as well as between the able-bodied and the disabled,” she said during a visit today.

Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, explained that the idea to integrate the welfare department office with other related bodies, was to inculcate positive values such as caring and empathy.

According to a spokesman of the Public Works Department, the complex has yet to be issued an occupation permit but this would be done soon.
