Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg said the fact that Sarawak registers five million tourists every year from all corners of the world, including from Europe and the Middle East countries, shows that the city has what it takes as a major tourist draw.

“We chose Kuching City to be the gateway to other parts of Sarawak while indirectly increasing our tourism attraction in other parts of the state,” he said at the launch of Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE) Agenda 2019 at Kuching Waterfront last night.

He said Sarawak will further develop the waterfront and the numerous facilities in the city to transform it into the state’s most beautiful city. As the gateway to all the other parts of Sarawak, Kuching must attract.

“Sarawak already has its first environment-friendly electric bus, and in May three more electric buses will be available in the city. These will add value to the city and state as a tourist destination,” he noted.

Apart from that, the road from Lundu to Bau will be improved in order to make the journey easy and smooth.

He said with its first floating mosque and the Darul Hana bridge already in place Kuching is fast becoming a place that tourists will find hard to resist.

“Just as Datuk Abang Wahap mentioned, the city will soon be 3S (Safe, Smart and Sustainable),” he added.
