KUCHING: The state government is still in the process of improving air connectivity to Kuching and other cities across the state due to the increasing number of tourists this year.

“We have been receiving many domestic tourists since early this year.

The number of visitors from Singapore lately has significantly increased,” Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah told reporters at a press conference for the “Best of Asean Designers” event here yesterday.

“Whether it is a chartered flight or direct flight, we will announce once we sign the contract,” Abdul Karim said.

“At the moment, we are still negotiating with international airlines from Indonesia and Brunei.” Describing the Visit Sarawak 2019 campaign as successful, he stressed that this reflected the state government’s hard work in bringing prosperity to its people.

“The growing number of tourists coming into the state reflects the state government’s aspiration of becoming a developed state in 2030.”
