LUNDU: Sarawak bagged six gold, nine silver and 21 bronze medals to emerge overall first runners-up at the10th TM WTF-NSC-Milo National Junior Taekwondo Championship 2019 held here for three days and ended yesterday.

Meanwhile, Koryo TKD Club from Kuala Lumpur collected 17 gold, 12 silver and 16 bronze medals to emerge as the overall champions. Twenty state teams and clubs from throughout the country participated in the tournament held at Salcra Bajo Training Centre here.

Tanjong Datu Assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah in her text of speech read by Lundu District Officer Gustian Durani at the closing ceremony of the tournament yesterday thanked Malaysian Taekwondo Association and Sarawak Taekwondo Association headed by Azizul Annuar Adenan Satem for hosting the tournament for the first time in the district.

“During the championship, we heard screams of support, joy and excitement by all.

“It’s our pleasure to have our national and state coaches, Malaysia Games champions to showcase their world class skills to my people here in Lundu,” she said.

Jamilah hoped they will come again and attract more top fighters to support the state association’s events.

Meanwhile, Azizul Annuar also thanked Malaysian Taekwondo Association and SarawakTaekwondo Association for successfully organising the tournament here. 

He invited the officials and participants to take the opportunity while they are here to explore Lundu and Sematan which is popular for its tourist spots, especially the beautiful beaches.

Annuar said if Kudat is known as ‘Tip Of Borneo’, then Telok Melano in Tanjung Dato is known as “The Beginning of Borneo’. 

Also present were the vice-president of Taekwondo Malaysia, Grandmaster Kriashmuthy, Master Dhanraj Rassiah and national technical chairman of Taekwondo Malaysia and Grandmaster Tan Check Joon from Sarawak Taekwondo Association.
