KUCHING: What is wrong with Democratic Action Party (DAP) and its top leader, secretary-general and Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng? Why do they show so much venom, hostility and hatred for Sarawak?
Political analyst Datuk Peter Minos asked these questions yesterday in response to Lim’s challenge to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Openg to show proof that he (Lim) had referred to MPKKP as the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s “weapon” to capture Sarawak in the coming state election.
On Oct 28, Lim denied using the word to refer to MPKKP.
“This is a disreputable act of putting such words, especially ‘weapon’, into my mouth,” he said in a statement.
In his statement, Minos said,”Last time, Lim openly said Sarawak would go ‘bankrupt’ against all the facts and if believed, this would have got Sarawak into very serious financial trouble.
“That was very offensive and done in truly bad taste with ill intention, speaking as he did as the Finance Minister.
“This time around, he is deliberately picking a quarrel with our chief minister, showing no respect at all to Sarawak’s top leader and thus, to Sarawak as a whole.”
Minos further reminded Lim that instead of bashing Sarawak, it was better and wiser for him to go back to Malaya and solve the many problems faced by his party including the arrest of DAP’s men accused of having connections with the disbanded Sri Lanka Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) terror group and the cartoonist aligned to DAP who produced the offensive cartoon book which was prefaced by him and said to be glorifying communism.
“There are also many contentious issues facing DAP in Malaya that need solutions and require his attention. Why go to peaceful Sarawak and stir things up for the sake of politicking? Is he trying to do some kind of diversion for his troubles in Malaya?
“It is no secret that DAP, through its local cahoots and with Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), is seriously intending to topple Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and take over Sarawak in the next election in 2021,” said the political analyst.
Minos said no Sarawakians would yield Sarawak to any Malayan or Malaya-based party. Sarawakians, he added, were fully aware that Malayans did not know Sarawak or understand its people, much less their ways and styles, customs and traditions, hopes and aspirations, love for racial and religious harmony and the like.
“Sarawakians do not believe or trust that Malayans can handle Sarawak or manage it.
“Besides, they can easily see and hear the many unhappy and disturbing things that have been and are going on in the Malayan side, such as the elements of religious and racial problems and the nasty and offensive words of extremists on racial and religious issues.
“If Malayan leaders cannot handle and solve the almost endless problems at home, it is not possible that they can handle things in Sarawak. So it’s better for Lim, with his Pakatan Harapan leaders in Kuala Lumpur, to get real, do house-cleaning and problem-solving before they go on a silly rampage in Sarawak.
“Coming to Sarawak talking super big and acting like emperors is an act in self-delusion and in futility, making themselves look like fools in the state,” he said.
Minos added that while respecting and loving Malaysia as their nation, Sarawakians since 1963 have wanted the state to be run and ruled by fellow Sarawakians for many valid and legitimate reasons.
