Wife-beater arrested

MIRI: Police have detained a 22-year-old local man for allegedly assaulting his wife during an altercation.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said the incident took place in a house at Pin Fook Garden here on Thursday night.

The suspect was reportedly infuriated and struck a blow to his wife’s face before pulling her hair.

The 22-year-old woman claimed that her husband had grabbed her around the neck and left her unconscious.

She was rushed to Miri Hospital for medical treatment.

Initial investigations revealed the cause of the incident was due to jealousy.

“During the altercation, the suspect accused the wife of having an affair with another man, before he attacked the wife,” said Hakemal.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing harm and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act.
