BUDAPEST: Danielle Williams pipped Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn and season leader Kandra Harrison for a second 100 metres world title at the World Athletics Championships 2023, eight years after her first.

Jamaica’s 2015 champion and 2019 bronze medallist Williams clocked 12.43 seconds to beat Puerto Rican Camacho-Quinn by one-hundredths of a second, and American former world record holder Harrison trailed by another two-hundredths as she missed a first global title again.

Title holder and world record holder Tobi Amusan of Nigeria had to settle for sixth, a week after she had a provisional suspension on suspicion of doping rules violations lifted which allowed her to compete in Budapest.

American 2019 gold medallist Nia Ali lost all her chances when she clipped the first and second hurdle and finished last, a year after crashing out in the heats. –  BERNAMA-dpa
