KUCHING: Wishesland Kuching will be receiving RM20,000 to carry out its activities, said Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

The Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister stated that in 12 years of its existence, Wishesland has made tremendous progress.

“They are doing a good job not only in terms of facilities, but also their environment and landscape. They have an impressive support system and rehabilitation work for children with cerebral palsy (CP),” she said when she visited them today (Feb 19).

According to her, the non-government organisation (NGO) has five physiotherapists and provides hydrotherapy as well as facilities that help with brain training.

“We can see that some of the NGOs, such as this one, are carrying out their rehabilitation work very well.

“The government shows their support by providing grants for them. This is a way to ease their burden and assist them in carrying out activities,” she added.

Fatimah also applauded Wishesland for complying with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) set by the government.

“It is indeed a job well done for children to come to the centre to continue with their therapy and rehabilitation sessions during this Covid-19 pandemic as the rehabilitation process needs to be consistent due to it being a long term commitment,” she said.

For children that need physical contact, their therapy and rehabilitation sessions are carried out in their homes with their parents or guardians with their progress constantly monitored and assessed by staff members.

Meanwhile, Fatimah also said she is in full support of Wishesland expanding to other divisions, following the recent one in Miri.

“I hope that the Miri branch would be able to provide similar types of services like the ones in Kuching,” she added.
