KUCHING: Association of Wives of State Ministers, Assistant Ministers and State Assemblyman (Sarawak Badan Amal Tenaga Isteri-isteri — Sabati) will now have its own “home”, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud officiated at the launch of Wisma Sabati project at Jalan Bako yesterday.

The ground-breaking ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests including Taib’s wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, Abang Johari and his wife Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, and deputy chief ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

“The persistent efforts of the late Datuk Patinggi Dr Laila Taib have ensured the development of Sabati to become a well-respected organisation,” said Abang Johari in his speech.

“The completion of the building will signify the level of progress that has been achieved by Sabati since its establishment in 1982,” he said.

According to him, Sabati has not only contributed greatly with its charity work for the community, but have also focused on the environment.

“Sabati members have planted thousands of trees all over Sarawak,” he said.

“Laila was the first person to urge us not just to plant trees along roads, but also around our homes to benefit the environment.

“This organisation encourages the involvement of its members in activities that can contribute to community development, improves the quality of leadership, and inspires the growth of positive values.”

Abang Johari also expressed his appreciation for the husbands of Sabati members for their continual support.

He hoped that Wisma Sabati would further motivate Sabati members to continue their good work.

“Other organisations including those in the private sector should also contribute towards the efforts of Sabati,” he concluded.
