KUCHING: Non-governmental organisation (NGO) Wings Motor Gang Society (WMGS) is eyeing to expand across the country and neighbouring Indonesia.

“So far, we have about 200 members scattered throughout Southeast Asian countries such as Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and Singapore.

“We are currently looking for an opening in Indonesia. It’s fine even if we have a small number of membership in that country as long as we can spread our wings there,” said WMGS founder and president Datuk Ahmad Azhar Othman or best known as Datuk ‘King’ Awie.

On Sarawak, he said the state’s landmass was too big and WMGS might have to combine a few districts into one branch instead of having only one branch leader administering the members statewide.

He told New Sarawak Tribune this in an interview after attending a private function with WMGS Kuching Chapter at a local hotel here on Tuesday night (June 23).

On the organisation itself, Awie said WMGS focused on three elements namely ‘silaturahim’ ties among members, economy and welfare.

“WMGS puts the members’ discipline as one of its key focus because we wish to foster ties and build trust among the members. Without it, the society will collapse.

“We also focus on WMGS’ growth by making sure that the leader has the capability in administering the economy of the group. It is important to have the cash flow so that we can use it to hold events and conduct activities.

“When we have the money, we won’t have any problem to conduct welfare programmes and give back to the community,” Awie, who is also known as the lead vocalist of rock band Wings, elaborated.

Apart from that, WMGS hoped to indirectly motivate youngsters to chase after their dreams of owning big bikes.

WMGS was established in 2016 and registered under Registrar of Societies (ROS). Its branch in Kuching contributed the biggest number of about 30 members despite only established the following year on May 22, 2017.
