Woman, 20, youngest fatal case

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded 10 new deaths linked to Covid-19 today (Sept 8), bringing the state’s Covid-19 death toll to 593.

Of the new deaths, the youngest was a 20-year-old woman and two of the new deaths were Brought In Dead (BID) cases.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said the 584th death was a BID case involving a 77-year-old woman from Kapit District.

“The body was brought to Kapit Hospital. This case was confirmed as positive for Covid-19 on June 25 and she had high blood pressure,” the committee said in a statement today.

It said the 585th death was a 94-year-old man from Kuching district who passed away at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

“The case was confirmed as positive for Covid-19 on Aug 26. He had comorbidities of high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, kidney disease, and chronic lung disease,” said the committee.

It pointed out the 586th death was a man aged 62 years from Kuching district who passed away at SGH. He tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 2.

“The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, and kidney disease,” the committee stated.

As for the 587th death, SDMC said this was a 52-year-old woman from Kapit district who passed away at Kapit Hospital. She was confirmed as positive for Covid-19 on Sept 5.

“The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, and kidney disease,” it said.

A 20-year-old woman from Bintulu district was death number 588. She died at Bintulu Hospital.

“The case was confirmed as positive for Covid-19 on Aug 20 and she had diabetes and obesity,” they said.

The committee said the 589th death was a woman aged 58 years from Sarikei district who passed away at Sarikei Hospital. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug 30.

“The case had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, and dyslipidaemia,” the committee said.

It said the 590th death was a 71-year-old man from Subis district who passed away at Miri Hospital.

“This case was confirmed as positive for Covid-19 on Sept 2 and he had high blood pressure,” they said.

SDMC said the 591st death was a BID case involving a woman aged 89 years from Tatau District, whose body was brought to Bintulu Hospital. She tested positive for Covid-19 on Sept 2 and had no known history of disease.

“The 592nd death was a man aged 89 years from Bau district who passed away at Bau Hospital,” it said, adding that he had been confirmed as Covid-19 positive on Sept 2. This case had high blood pressure and dyslipidaemia.

The committee said the 593rd death was a 53-year-old man from Kuching district who passed away at SGH.

“The case tested positive for Covid-19 on Aug 30 and he had comorbidities of high blood pressure, diabetes, dyslipidaemia, and gout,” SDMC stated.
