Woman arrested after high-speed chase

LAWAS: A Bruneian woman who drove her car through the Merapok Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security (ICQS) Complex today (Feb 23) was arrested.

According to Lawas district police chief DSP Roslan Leman, the incident occurred around 10.30am when the 28 year-old woman, coming from Sindumin in Sabah, crashed through the checkpoint and led police on a 30-minute high-speed chase.

“Right after she crashed through the checkpoint, she sped off heading towards Lawas town, prompting the police to pursuit her,” he said in a statement.

The police instructed the suspect to stop multiple times but she ignored them; forcing them to fire a few shots at the suspect’s car tyre.

During the high-speed chase, a police vehicle was damaged as it was hit by the suspect’s car a few times.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Roslan added that the suspect is currently being detained under police custody for questioning.

Further checks conducted on the suspect found that she was carrying only a Brunei identity card.

The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant from carrying out his or her duties.
