Woman chases down thieves

KUCHING: A 37-year-old woman took matters into her own hands and stopped two snatch thieves after a brief motorcycle chase at Jalan Ajibah Abol last Saturday (Sept 26).

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani explained that the incident occurred around 11.45am when the victim was heading home on her motorcycle.

Two suspects on a motorcycle suddenly came from behind and snatched the victim’s handbag placed in the vehicle’s front basket.

“The victim chased the suspects and grabbed hold of the pillion rider’s shirt, causing both motorcycles to lose control and crash at the side of the road.

“Members of the public who witnessed the incident quickly rushed to help the victim and apprehend the suspects,” he said in a statement.

He added that the victim sustained injuries on her head, elbows and right knee while the suspects also sustained injuries, with one of them suffering a broken right hand and left leg.

Awang Din stated that a police team was despatched to the scene to re-arrest the suspects aged 22 and 44. One of the suspects was identified as a repeat offender.

The case will be investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code.
