KOTA SAMARAHAN: The stork apparently can’t wait …. so a woman delivered a baby girl in her car with the help of two policewomen on duty at the Kuching-Samarahan Expressway roadblock last Thursday night (June 10).

District police chief DSP Sudirman Kram who confirmed the news, said a car was seen speeding towards the roadblock around 11.50pm.

“The car was travelling from Semera Ulu, Asajaya to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and when it arrived at a traffic light near the roadblock, a woman in the car was about to give birth.

“The woman’s husband panicked and made the decision to go against the traffic flow towards the roadblock to get help,” he said.

Lans corporal Noor Fatihah Azelam and corporal Perakson Jennie who spotted the vehicle, rushed forward and found that the woman was already in labour.

Both policewomen helped to deliver the baby successfully. The policewomen wrapped the newborn in a clean towel while awaiting an ambulance to help transport both mother and child to SGH.

Both the mother and her baby girl were later taken to SGH in an ambulance.
