PADAWAN: A woman was killed and another was injured after the motorcycle they were riding crashed into a pickup truck last night (June 3).
The fatal accident happened around 10.15pm at the Taman Emas junction, Mile 9, Jalan Kuching-Serian.
A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim, identified as Nurizaliana Mazlan, 32, was reportedly trapped under the pickup truck.
Firemen from Siburan station, who were alerted of the crash, were promptly despatched to the scene, some 23km away.
On arrival, they quickly performed the extrication works to free the trapped victim and handed her over to the paramedics.
She was then pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was handed over to the police to be taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.
The other victim, whose identity was not disclosed, sustained injuries and was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment before the team arrived at the scene.
The extent of his injuries was not made known.
Meanwhile, the pickup truck driver managed to escape without injuries.
After performing flushing works to clear the accident debris, the team concluded the operation at 10.50pm.
