KUCHING: A woman was sentenced to a two months’ jail or pay a fine of RM1,500 here on Monday for hurting her boyfriend’s son by banging his head against the wall.

Nurlyana, 36, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

According to the charge sheet, she intentionally injured the eight-year-old boy.

She committed the act at their residence in Kampung Rudan Rayang, here, around 10 am on August 27, 2021.

The boy stated that he opened the refrigerator to get water to drink but forgot to close its door thereafter, prompting Nurlyana to berate him and hit his forehead against the wall.

At that time, his father was said to have already left for work.

The victim who was taken to the hospital for examination was confirmed to have suffered bruises on his forehead and nose.

The boy’s biological mother filed a police report after being alerted by her former father-in-law.

The court heard that the boy was now living with her ex-husband and girlfriend.

It is understood that after they divorced, the boy’s mother did not apply for custody because she was disabled after her right leg was amputated due to diabetes.

The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while Nurlyana was not represented by a lawyer.

It is understood that she paid the fine.
