KUCHING: The Magistrates Court sentenced a 58-year-old woman to one day in jail and a RM800 fine for stealing three pairs of bras from a clothing store in a shopping mall here.

Audrey May V Sebastian from Tabuan Jaya, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali to a charge framed under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, she can be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and a fine.

Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura also sentenced her to two weeks’ imprisonment if she failed to pay the fine.

According to the charge, the accused stole the bras from the clothing store at around 3.30pm on April 28.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant, who is a store employee, noticed that the accused had entered the premises and stole three pairs of bras costing RM79.90 each.

The complainant then lodged a police report and it led to the accused’s arrest at 4.15pm on the same day.
