Woman hit by car while crossing road dies from injuries

KUCHING: A sexagenarian died while her daughter suffered injuries after a car crashed into them along Jalan Sultan Tengah here.

Sarawak traffic police chief Supt Bingkok John said the deceased, identified as Zohara Ender, 60, was pronounced dead around 10.40am on Monday (June 20) after she succumbed to her injuries at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).

Meanwhile, the victim’s 37-year-old daughter, who suffered a hip fracture, is still receiving treatment at SGH.

“Investigations found that the fatal accident happened around 6.10am near Kampung Sungai Berdaun when a car driven by a 54-year-old man with two passengers, was moving from Rampangi to Santubong.

“At the time, the two victims were crossing the road from right to left after the deceased put her grandchild on a school bus, which was on the right side of the road.

“Following the accident, the deceased’s son lodged a police report.”

Meanwhile, the driver and his passengers were unharmed.

The driver is currently detained to assist in the investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
