Woman jailed for two months for prostitution

SIBU: A woman opted for two months’ incarceration as she could not pay the RM1,500 fine imposed by the Magistrates’ Court here today for prostitution.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar had fined the 29-year-old accused RM1,500, in default two months’ imprisonment, after she pleaded no contest to the charge.

She was charged with offering sexual services to a 45-year-old man at a hotel in Jalan Channel on June 25 at about 2.50pm.

The offence is listed under Section 372B of the Penal Code which upon conviction, the accused could be punished by up to one year in prison or a fine or both.

The accused was arrested in one of the rooms at the hotel, together with a man, believed to be her client, during a raid by a police team.

Several items were seized as evidence, including money and condoms.
