The crash occurred around 6.50 am when the tanker allegedly rear-ended the car that was entering a junction with three women inside.

Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said the crash happened along Mile 31, Jalan Oya Sibu-Bintulu.

Firemen from Selangau station were promptly deployed to the scene, some 26km away, after being alerted to the incident.

“On arrival, they found that one of the victims was trapped in the back seat of the car and extrication works were performed.

“As soon as she was freed, the victim, whose identity is not known, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics,” he said, adding that her body was taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.

Meanwhile, the other two women (driver and front seat passenger) sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Sekuau health clinic for treatment.
