MIRI: An elderly woman was cheated of RM10,000 by three individuals who claimed they won 6Digit lottery ticket but needed the victim to help them claim the money on Tuesday. The suspects, including a female, said they could not claim the winning ticket as they were not Malaysians, hence, needed the victim’s help for the purpose.

According to Sarawak Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief Supt Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah, the 65 year-old victim was approached by a female suspect around 2pm on Tuesday at a hair salon along Kingsway Road here. The victim works as a hairdresser at the salon.

“The female suspect eventually managed to persuade the victim to help her claim the alleged winning ticket number amounting RM300,000,” said Mustafa. The suspect even showed her (the victim) the fake winning lottery ticket to convince the victim.

Accompanied by a male suspect, they went to a nearby bank to withdraw RM10,000 from the victim’s account in exchange for the so called ‘winning 6D lottery ticket’. After the transaction, the victim went to another bank to deposit a cheque and was told by the bank it was fake.
