KOTA SAMARAHAN: A supermarket sales promoter was left RM125,000 poorer after falling prey to a non-existent job offer.

The incident happened on Jan 9 this year when the woman in her late 40s, clicked on a part-time job advertisement after she was intrigued with the offer on Facebook.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata in a statement, said that the victim later received a message from an individual named ‘Xie Ong Xiang’ (suspect).

The unknown individual offered her a side income as a salesperson through the ‘Dobemall’ and ‘Dobevil’ app links.

“The suspect also promised the victim that she would be paid the profit from the sales.

“Between end of January until mid-May, the victim transferred a sum of RM125,000 into 13 different bank accounts via 18 transactions,” he said.

However, the woman realised that she had been cheated after the promised profit failed to materialise despite making all the purchases.

Mancha said that the victim reported the incident to the police on Wednesday (May 22) and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing the delivery of property.
