SRI AMAN: A woman who was missing in the forest area near a longhouse headed by longhouse chief (Tuai Rumah) Achun at Menalang A, Undop, Batu Lintang here since October 6 was found safe yesterday.

Sri Aman District Civil Defence Force Officer, Captain (PA) Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said the victim, Rosalind Gelumbang, 48, was found about 200 metres from her longhouse area at 8.15am, yesterday. “The victim was found collecting fruits when the search and rescue team encountered her in the area on the second day of the operation.

“After finding the victim safe, this rescue operation carried out jointly by APM, fire and rescue (Bomba) personnel, police and villagers here ended at 10am,” Siti said. APM Sri Aman officials on duty then immediately took the victim to the Batu Lintang Health Clinic near here at 10.27am using an ambulance for treatment.

“The victim suffered mosquito and ant bites when found by us,” she said, adding that pillows, small knife, bags and some other items were also found with the victim. Earlier, Sri Aman District Police Headquarters (IPD) launched a search and rescue operation at 9am yesterday after the victim’s father lodged a police report on October 11, five days after she was missing.

The victim who is mentally ill was believed to have gone to the garden in the woods near her longhouse on Oct 6. She was reportedly not returning home since then though the father only made a police report almost a week later.
