Woman sentenced five years for drugs

KUCHING: A 21-year-old woman has been sentenced to five years imprisonment after pleading guilty to possessing 34.61g of methamphetamine.

Sessions Court judge Maris Agan ordered Lisa Noorhayati Mohamad Yusuf to begin serving the sentence from Tuesday (May 4).

For a second offence, the accused was fined RM2,000 or sentenced to four months imprisonment after pleading guilty to possessing 0.01g of nimetazepam.

The accused pleaded guilty to both under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

She committed both offences at 12.15pm at the parking lot near MJC Batu Kawa here on Feb 2.

According to the facts of the case, the accused, from Kampung Pulo Ulu, Petra Jaya, was assisting her mother at their cake stall in MJC Batu Kawa.

She was arrested on suspicion of drug abuse. She was found to have hidden a cigarette pack containing transparent substances believed to be methamphetamine in a bag.

The accused also had two silver foils containing 30 Eramin 5 pills (nimetazepam).

The seizures were sent to the lab for testing, and on March 19, found to be methamphetamine and nimetazepam weighing 34.61g and 0.01g respectively.
