SARIKEI: The Usahawan Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) Sarikei branch members, especially women, are urged to utilise the opportunities provided to reduce household poverty.

Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the opportunities provided are in the form of small-scale financial credit assistance through “ikhtiar” financing for impoverished households to engage in various economic activities that can enhance their income, regardless of race, religion, gender, and political beliefs.

In this regard, he hopes that AIM entrepreneurs of the Sarikei branch make use of the opportunities given to improve their lives.

“Utilise the capital as effectively as possible. Set yourself to be a good entrepreneur in all aspects, including high integrity, and have a competitive vision and mission to make every business space more competitive and productive,” he said.

Len, who is also Tanjung Manis assemblyman, was speaking at the opening ceremony of the Sukan Tahun Sahabat Usahawan AIM Sarikei (SUTAIMS) programme held at Sarikei Sports Complex recently.

Additionally, he mentioned that microcredits like those implemented by AIM have proven to be capable of developing the economy of both the people and the country that practice them.

For the record, AIM Sarawak has disbursed financing capital totalling RM164 million, of which RM9.7 million has been distributed to entrepreneurs in the Sarikei branch as of August this year.
