KAPIT: The Kapit Foochow Association Women wing recently held their annual general meeting (AGM) on Thursday evening at the association’s conference room along Jalan Tiong Ung Hung.

The association’s chairman Kapitan Yiap Yii Hoo was present to officiate at the meeting.

Kapit Foochow Association Women wing chairperson Sia Leh Ching said that their section had a successful year in 2019 as all the planned activities were carried up smoothly and successfully.

She hoped that this year would be another fruitful year with the same level of support and cooperation from all members.

On another note, she felt dejected as the newer generations were handicapped in speaking their mother tongue, the Foochow dialect.

“We have decided to include the ‘Foochow Dialect’ at learning centres in 2020. We have yet to work up the details. Probably, once a month to invite parents and children to attend. Hopefully, the move will receive encouraging response from the members and parents alike,” stressed Sia.

Meanwhile, Yiap in his opening remark, congratulated the women wing who did well in 2019 and hoped that they would have a fruitful year.

He pointed out that both the Women wing and Youth wing played very significant roles to complement the main body in organising activities.

After the meeting, a gathering was organised to celebrate their members’ birthdays that falls in the first half of 2020.

Organising chairperson Kong Siew Kim emphasised that birthday is a joyous occasion because a new life has been born.

“However, don’t forget the mother’s suffering and pain of going through nine months of pregnancy before delivery. While we celebrate the birthday, we must always remind ourselves of our parents’ sacrifices in order to raise us,” she said, adding that members’ birthday was the first activity organised by the Kapit Foochow Women wing in 2020.
