KUCHING: Online courses can help women and senior citizens keep up with the digital age.
The Federation of Kuching and Samarahan Divisions Chinese Associations’ Women Section president Georgina Chong said it is important for them to know how to use modern technology.
“As we are currently living with Covid-19, it is important for everyone to take advantage of emerging technologies to help us in our daily lives.
“The use of information technology will benefit them in so many ways,” she said when met by reporters after the opening ceremony of Zoom
Online Meeting/Class organised by the associations’ women section at the Mandarin restaurant, I-COM Square here yesterday (Oct 31).
Chong said the online classes will teach the senior citizens and women how to use the latest applications such as for online transaction or online booking.
“They can learn how to use the applications such as SarawakPay and Grab Food, as well as how to book flight tickets online and such.
“We are doing this because the way of life now is very different. We want to teach them how to use phones, computers and online apps that would help them in their daily lives,” she said.
Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah was present to officiate at the event.
She commended the efforts of the women section to initiate the online classes and noted that it will impact the lives of the people.
“Hopefully, they are able to learn how to adopt modern technologies for their benefit,” said Fatimah.
