Wong announces grant of RM20,000 for KASKSD

SIBU: Minister of International Trade and E-Commerce, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh has announced a grant of RM20,000 for the Kindergarten Association for Sibu, Kapit and Sarikei Divisions (KASKSD).

Wong made this announcement when addressing at the association’s 30th anniversary celebration dinner at a leading hotel here yesterday.

Wong stressed that kindergarten teachers play a pivotal role in shaping and moulding the young generation at an early age for the future.

“Their noble roles, sacrifices and contributions must be duly recognised by the government.

“Such recognition has not been given over the years. Now it is time to give due recognition to them for their noble roles,” he said.

Wong, who is also Second Finance Minister, said the noble profession of kindergarten teachers should be held in high esteem and be duly respected and recognised by the government.

“As such the State Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development will be making a study on the roles of kindergartens, child learning centres and nurseries and find ways and means of upgrading the profession through training and so on.

“Early education determines the future of the young generation. This is where a kindergarten teacher plays a paramount role in influencing and shaping the life of the pre-schooler,” he said, adding the role played by kindergarten teachers should never be ignored.

At the event, long service awards were also presented to members of KASKSD who had served six years and above. Chairman of Sibu Municipal Council, Datuk Tiong Thai King, Lanang Member of Parliament Alice Lau and KASKSD chairperson Pricilla Wong were among those present.
