KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak’s (GPS) candidate for Lanang parliamentary seat, Wong Ching Yong is grateful that he is chosen to wrest back the seat from the opposition.

The Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman, in a statement, expressed his gratitude to GPS chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for supporting him to be the candidate for Lanang.

“I would also like to express my warmest gratitude to my family for the care and concern showered onto me all these years.

“Their love, care and concern are indispensable in whatever understanding and achievements in my life. My family is my pillar of support mentally,” he said.

Wong also extends his gratitude to Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian for the strong support and advice given to him and the SUPP Dudong branch.

The 64-year-old stated that Dr Sim’s support is especially important after he was surprisingly and unexpectedly denied the opportunity to contest for the Dudong constituency in the previous Sarawak state election.

“Aside from that, without the support and advice from SUPP secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting and the party central, it is unlikely for me and SUPP Dudong branch to move on and recover from the serious setback last year.

“I thank all party members of SUPP Dudong branch, my friends and relatives, who still continue to encourage, assist and support me, rain or sunshine,” he said.

Alice Lau Kiong Yieng of Democratic Action Party (DAP) has represented Lanang for the past two terms. It comprises the state seats of Bukit Assek and Dudong.
