Words and energy

I am contributing my 40th column to Sarawak Tribune today. All within 10 months starting February of actively contributing to this wonderful newspaper with its warm, friendly editors. I was told that upon my 50th contribution, they will compile all my work and make it into a book!

I am so elated because although I am also in the businesses of media and publishing, we are always publishing for somebody else and on topics they have commissioned us to do. I am the ‘behind the scenes’ girl – making people look good and making companies look even better.

So, throughout the journey of my career, I never published my own book. Many have said that I should and that so many people will want to read about my life, its tumultuous routes, my story, my thoughts that are unafraid and different and especially, my success.

It was always at the last part that I got stumped. “What success?” I would ask. I am just an ordinary girl trying to live an extraordinary life, like everybody else. What makes me special? I could never see me through their eyes, I only saw myself through my eyes which were fixated on people who were doing greater and bigger things – running Fortune 500 companies, running countries, having turnovers of 100 million USD etc … and I asked myself, what have I done, and why would anyone want to read my book?

It is only recently that my eyes have been opened to a truth that I never saw before.

That I am certainly very rich, in the currency that really matters. The currency of life itself, which is energy. I believe that the real currency of this world is energy that is harnessed from the living energetic forces that surround us. And boy am I rich in it – because many people remark that they are energised by my presence. That I walk into the room and it brightens up. I make people feel better by listening to them and speaking to them. I can heal with my touch.

When I give talks, groups of people say that it is always the best one hour they have ever had. I spend a day in the office and everything moves at a heightened pace and people are laughing and getting jobs finished faster. I go for meetings and clients say they feel energised and want to take photos with me to capture the moment.

At parties, random strangers can come up to me, and start confiding in me their deepest fears and anxieties, and there are times I have sat there with my arms around a stranger and his head on my shoulder crying because someone has listened and actually heard him.

So, I may not have the bank balance of Soros, but I am richer than him. Because I harness the energy around me and change it to be positive and it’s delightful to see pure electricity at play. I touch people positively; I spark a long-lasting magic in them that makes them happy and confident of themselves. I can charge people with just a smile and a wave. A short conversation and their faces light up and they move on with a bit of my energy in them, to fuel their day.

I always have time to hear or tell a story, to listen without advising because sometimes they just want to talk, and I always give them strength. Often strength is just letting them know they are not alone, by stories of my life through the words I speak, sentences that correlate and stories I write for them.

Words have immense power.

Words are spells because they have the ability to reach in, caress you and seduce you by just reading them. They can hypnotise you, reel you in to kiss you, or tear you apart with sorrow. They can give you hope, they can drown you with fear, they can lift your heart to the highest pinnacles with unbridled joy and they can also make you spiral out of control into the darkest abyss.

Words. The elixir to its life is the energy that accompanies the passion with which these words written or spoken. For words have to be breathed into the hearts and minds of those spoken to, and then only can it become life itself. Energy is the conduit of words, energy is the conduit of almost everything in this world.

So, I am so very rich then. For words have always been my strength. I am a wizard of words and I tap into energy around me with ease. My words thus go out in unseen flames of power to spark a journey within the people it reaches.

Who needs paper currency when they can wield magic through energy and words?
