SIBU: Upgrading work has begun on three roads in Kampung Sentosa Salim which are often affected by flash floods, causing difficulties to residents in the area.

Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng when met by reporters during the project inspection said one of the road sections is located at Jalan Bukit Lima Timur while another two are at Jalan Sentosa.

“The total cost for the project is RM600,000 and it was approved by the Premier last Friday (Nov 4) and today with assistance from Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) we begin the work,” he said, adding that the upgrading work will be completed in a week.

“It is very difficult. Every time when there is a flash flood, the water rises to one metre. It is very difficult for the residents to go in and out for school and work.

“The road will be raised, compacted and then it will be tar sealed. As for the drain it is not included in the upgrading project but we will liaise with the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) to make sure the water can run off during the year-end (rainy season),” he said.
