SIBU: Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapaee hopes that the Chinese Community Leaders Association will interact more with the different communities.

Dr Annuar said this would foster better understanding and create a harmonious society in Sibu as the association played an important role in the community.

“Sarawak is a multiracial society and so the role of the association is important at the grassroots level.

“Community leaders have to work together to maintain harmony in our community,” he said.

The Nangka assemblyman added another important role for community leaders was to strengthen inter-racial harmony in the state.

He said this at the Sibu Division Chinese Community Leaders Chinese New Year dinner and annual general meeting (AGM) here on Sunday night.

Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau, meanwhile in his speech, asked members to be more visible in the eyes of the public.

He said the presence of the Federal Village Community Management Council (MPKKP) would disrupt the community and cause disunity among the various communities.

“The current Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) has served our communities well in harmony,” he added.
