Workers camp registers 101 positive cases

MIRI: A total of 101 Covid-19 positive cases has been detected at a base camp for road construction workers of the Pan Borneo Highway, involving to the Tangap sub-cluster in Subis district.

The Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) said today all the cases had been admitted to Miri Hospital and gazetted Covid-19 quarantine and treatment centres.

The remaining 254 base camp occupants comprising workers and their family members who tested negative during the first swab rT-PCR test were transported using chartered buses from the base camp to gazetted quarantine centres on February 16.

They will undergo strict quarantine for 14 days with a second scheduled swab for rT-PCR at an appropriate time.

Minister in charge of Miri DDMC, Datuk Lee Kim Shin extended his sincere appreciation and thanks to the management of the company for its close co-operation, support and commitment for the health and welfare of their workers and family members during this difficult period.

“The company has agreed to bear the transportation costs incurred as well as the quarantine hotel costs for their workers,” he disclosed during a meeting today.   

Meanwhile, the Miri Fire and Rescue Department performed sanitation works at the vacated camp today.
