Workers’ quarters destroyed in fire

KUCHING: Two blocks of workers’ quarters at a farm in Sungai Tisek, Betong were destroyed in a fire on Monday morning (Sept 13).

State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre said a distress call on the incident was received around 7am.

It said firefighters from the Betong Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were immediately rushed to the scene.

“The fire was brought under control at 8.05am.

“Each block has 10 rooms and a total of 20 rooms were destroyed,” it said.

The operations centre said no loss of lives or injuries were reported during the incident, adding that all occupants managed to escape safely.

“The cause of the fire is still under investigation,” it added.
