BINTULU: Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) in collaboration with Orion Social Media (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd developed an E-Health declaration and digital surveillance system to accelerate data collection of passengers at the Kuching International Airport (KIA) entrance.

Bintulu Resident Jack Aman Luat said the system was applicable to all foreign and domestic passengers coming to Sarawak via KIA.

“It (the system) will be able to detect persons under surveillance (PUS) who are found to be in violation of the rules while undergoing quarantine where they (PUS) will be required to wear a wristband.

“By using the wristband (on the PUS), it will also be able to warn the public to distance themselves from this group.

“Previously, a similar system has been installed at Sibu and Miri airports where passengers arriving in Sarawak will be given a wristband for data collection purposes,” he explained at a press conference at the Bintulu Resident’s Office here yesterday.

However, Jack said, since Bintulu Airport did not receive direct flights from outside Sarawak during the movement control order (MCO) phase 3, the data collection would only involve domestic flights.

In addition, he added after talking with several enforcement agencies, they have agreed that the system would be operating in Bintulu starting yesterday (Wednesday).

“Passengers arriving in Bintulu will be given a wristband and they will need to inform the authorities of their location by scanning the barcode on the wristband using their smartphones,” said the Bintulu Resident.
