MIRI:  Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau hailed the continuing attention Budget 2023 pays to growth in the rural areas of Sarawak.

“Our Premier is aware that rural areas lack of a lot of things and every year we are given allocations to develop areas located in the interior,” he said in welcoming measures under the budget proposals.

“In the ulu what’s important to our people is basic needs such as clean water supply and electricity,” Dennis said.

He said  the State government should always come up with out of the box kind of ways to help rural people.

On another note, Dennis also expressed hope that the Housing Deposit Assistance Scheme (HDAS) could set up offices in strategic locations outside Kuching , to allow and facilitate those from other divisions in the state who want to know more about the schemes provided.

HDAS is a government agency established to help low and middle income households own their first home by giving them a maximum RM10,000 deposit and under this scheme, they don’t have to repay the deposit the government.

“I am frequently asked by people in my constituency on this scheme and HDAS’s office whereabouts in Miri because they want to apply, but they don’t know where to go,” he said.

He said while the state government has been providing many facilities many people may still not know about these because of a lack of information dissemination.
