YBs chip in to address longhouse woes

BINTANGOR: Allocations have been approved for several development projects close to a longhouse here.

This includes a sum of RM400,000 under the rural transformation project (RTP) funding to upgrade the access road from the main junction to Rumah Panjang Peter Kilas here, said Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Office (Corporate Affairs, Information and Sarawak Public Communications Unit) Datuk Abdullah Saidol.

He has also allocated a total of RM74,300 via the minor rural projects (MRP) fund to reconstruct the pier at Rumah Panjang Peter Kilas.

“Some have also appealed for street lights to be installed around the pier area. We will look into it and maybe we will let the district council handle the matter.

“I can’t make any promises on the commencement of these projects but the allocations have been approved.

“Due to unpredictable weather conditions at the moment, please understand (any work delay),” he said during a Aram Bergempuru UKAS (Sarawak Public Communications Unit) programme at Rumah Panjang Peter Kilas yesterday.

At the same event, Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abdul Wahab stated that the Rural Development Ministry has allocated a RTP funding of RM400,000 for the embankment and upgrading work of the Rumah Panjang Peter Kilas grounds.

This is to reduce flood risk at the area and to address road woes, said Abdullah Saidol who is Semop assemblyman.

He then presented RM25,000 to help various local associations and committees for their activities.

Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing who also attended the programme contributed RM2,000 to the Rumah Panjang Peter Kilas Women’s Bureau.

Also present were UKAS Deputy Director Samuel Simon, Political Secretary to the Premier  Teng Ung Woo and Meradong District Officer Badjuri Bidin.
