KUCHING: Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developer’s Association (Sheda) Kuching branch chairman Datuk Sim Kiang Chiok is all for extending foreign workers’ permits in Sarawak.

Besides covering the shortfall of workers in the construction and plantation sector, he said it could save transportation costs and reduce the waiting and processing time.

“This will help tackle the shortage of the 5,000 construction workers as revealed by the Chief Minister on Monday,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Nov 24).

Sim added, however, only the permits of foreign workers with good behaviour and health records should be extended.

He believed many foreign workers with expired work permits were still in Sarawak.
