Yii retains Bandar Kuching seat

Yii celebrates his win as Bandar Kuching MP for the second time with his family.

KUCHING: DAP candidate Dr Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen has won the Bandar Kuching parliamentary seat with a majority of 28,891 in a three cornered fight against Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Eric Tay Tze Kok and Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) Voon Lee Shan.

He polled 45,353, while Tay received 16,462 and Voon received 1,760. The 36- year old medical doctor, on his second term said that he was ready to serve his constituency and bring a voice for Bandar Kuching and Sarawak.

“I am very excited and very humble to be given the opportunity to play my part as the member of parliament,” he said at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) vote tallying centre here.

The constituency recorded a turnout of 58.40 per cent. Bandar Kuching has 109, 710 registered voters.

Dr Yii, who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) youth chief, retained the seat for a second term.
