KUCHING: Violet Yong (DAP-Pending) would probably start her six months’ ‘internship’ at the Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry after the Hari Raya celebration.

Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah and Yong were seen sharing a light moment together at the DUN lobby Thursday, and Karim had indicated to her that arrangements would be made.

Yong when approached by reporters said she trusts Karim on his offer and she looks forward to the internship.

“Karim said he would discuss with his ministry’s permanent secretary and staff on where to attach me,” Yong said.

However, Yong said Karim had told her that she would not be attached at the ministry’s information desk.

“Hopefully this gesture is true and I will take the opportunity to learn and contribute to our state’s tourism industry,” she said.

Last Tuesday, Karim had made an offer to Yong to be an intern in the state Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry so that she will have a better insight into how the ministry works in promoting Sarawak.

Meanwhile, on Pakatan Harapan (PH) one year in the Federal administration, Yong said they have been performing well so far.

“We still have a lot to do, we are not perfect and of course there are many more for us to improve,” she said.

Yong also said there are many people-centric policies being implemented and the government is looking after the rural people of Sarawak well.

“The most important thing is that we are driving this country towards a clean, good and transparent governance.

“This is where Malaysia’s image has once again been brought to greater height and we get due respect and recognition from foreign countries including our Prime Minister who has been named as the 47th most influential leaders in the world. For me, such recognition is a great achievement for PH,” she pointed out.
