CHIEF Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg fired a shot at Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) due to the latter being inconsistent in his stand.
“Kota Sentosa has criticised and alleged that the Sarawak government has been spending extravagantly. At the same time, he demanded that the Sarawak government expend an extra RM1 billion to the proposed 2021 Budget.
“I am inclined to believe that Kota Sentosa is confused on what he actually wants. He is blowing hot and cold about his request. Does he want the Sarawak government to increase spending or reduce spending?
“I am perplexed at the conflicting statements of Kota Sentosa. This clearly shows that his intention is merely to criticise the Sarawak government,” he said in his winding-up speech today.
On Wednesday, Chong said the state government should allocate RM1 billion to help the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) survive the economic recession caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
“There is too little and almost negligible effort in the State Budget 2021 to help the SMEs,” he said when debating the Supply (2021) Bill 2020.
Chong noted that the assistance offered to SMEs were merely interest subsidies to more than 40,000 SMEs with an allocation of RM80.7 million and the Sarawak Micro Credit Scheme with RM37 million this year and RM50 million in 2021.
Last year, the Kota Sentosa assemblyman castigated the state government for being irresponsible when it came out with a substantial budget which amounted to RM9.891 billion.
The Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman also slammed the ‘alternative financing’ in the 2020 State Budget tabled last year, calling it ‘presumptuous budgeting’.
