KUCHING: Netizens, ministers and politicians have taken to social media to congratulate national diving queen Datuk Pandelela Rinong Pamg after she was conferred the Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Bintang Sarawak, Panglima Setia Bintang Sarawak (PSBS) which carries the title ‘Dato’ today (Oct 9).

She was among the 38 recipients who received various state awards during an investiture ceremony held in conjunction with Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud’s 85th birthday celebration.

Among them who congratulated the Bau-born Oympian was Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

“Congratulations to Dato’ Pandelela Rinong Pamg, national diving queen. Hopefully, this award will be a catalyst of spirit to continue to bring the country’s name to a higher level at the 2023 Paris Olympic.

“Well done, Dato’ Pandelela,” he said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin also praised her.

“Apt and fitting that on National Sports Day this year, our most decorated female Olympian, Pandelela is finally knighted by her home state of Sarawak.

“Congratulations, Dato’ Pandelela,” he tweeted in his Twitter account.

State Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Datuk Snowdan Lawan also posted a congratulatory image on his Facebook post, saying that Pandelela deserves the award.

Bandar Kuching MP Dr Kelvin Yii also praised the 28-year-old diver in his Facebook post: “Congratulations to Pandelela. A young icon who continues to inspire us all to always be dedicated and work hard to achieve our dreams.”
