KUCHING: The Junior Innovate 2023 Sarawak (Southern Zone) State Maker Fair has brought together innovative and creative young minds who have put their digital innovation skills to the test, aiming for practical real-life applications.

The competition, which was aptly themed ‘A Role-Playing Game – My Hero,’ served as a creative arena for participants to unleash their imagination and storytelling abilities through the design of a game.

This unique theme not only challenged their technical skills but also encouraged them to craft engaging narratives within the realm of gaming, blending technology with creativity to bring their ideas to life.

New Sarawak spoke to several participants to gauge their experiences and insights into the competition.

We created a game with the goal of helping people lose weight by incorporating physical movements like jumping into the gameplay. Winning the gold medal came as a surprise because many participants displayed remarkable skills, and we didn’t expect to win.

I feel happy and honoured to have won the gold medal in this competition, and I am excited to be proceeding to the finals of the competition in Miri in October with my team.

We created a game where a chef must eliminate mice in his kitchen. The journey has been both enjoyable and challenging, and we are thrilled to have earned the silver medal in this competition. As we transition to secondary school next year, I’m enthusiastic about continuing this journey of programming and coding.

Having secured the silver medal, my team and I were over the moon. However, as we’ll be moving on to secondary school, we won’t be able to participate anymore, but our passion for this will continue.
