MIRI: Younger Sarawakians must be prepared to take on challenges that may threaten unity in the state.

Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) chief executive Datu Aloysious J Dris who made the call said it was therefore incumbent of them to rise to the challenge of preserving the unity they would be inheriting from their elders.

Speaking at the opening of a ‘Projek Suara’ workshop here on Saturday he said the programme was initiated to give a voice to the youth about their ideas and views on doing things.

“Which is why we are here today, to hear from you (the youth) … to hear your suara (voice), because the continuation of the unity that we see here today in Sarawak will depend on you, our young people,” he pointed out.

YPS was formed to provide opportunities for young people to come together, not just to listen to the older generation, but to create more space for unity to be cultivated, he added.

“Unity is not just about race and religion,” he said, adding, “it includes the unity between young and old, unity between different social groups, unity between political groups and unity within our state and nation.”

The two-day workshop which participated by 36 youths aged 16 to 30 was declared open by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg virtually.
