Youth beaten for accusing cousin of stealing phone

MIRI: A youth was injured after he was beaten by his uncle for accusing his cousin of stealing his mobile phone on Tuesday night.

Miri District Police chief, ACP Khoo Leng Huat said the incident occurred at around 8.50pm when the victim, aged 24 years, went to the suspect’s house in Senadin here to discuss about his (suspect) son who stopped working at his shop.

“Upon arriving at the house, the suspect suddenly punched the victim on the face before hitting him with a piece of wood.

“As a result of the attack, the victim sustained injuries on his chin,” he said in a statement here.

Khoo added that the 38-year-old suspect was picked up from his house at 3.30pm the next day.

“Besides the arrest, police also seized two pieces of wood,” he said.

Khoo said initial investigation revealed the suspect was believed to be unhappy after learning that his son was accused of stealing the victim’s mobile phone.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code.
