SIBU: The Women and Youth wings of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) are the backbone of the party.

PRS vice president Datuk Majang Renggi said that the aspect of leadership that was sown from the beginning, especially at the youth level, is a catalyst towards producing credible heir to the PRS leadership.

“Therefore, high hopes are placed on the youth to strengthen the position of our party. In general, the youth wing serves as the inheritor of the party’s continuity. Like the saying ‘Pemuda Harapan Bangsa, Pemudi Tiang Negara’.

“Without the involvement of these two wings, the effort to build a political party like PRS today, which is over 17 years old, will not be a reality,” he said at the PRS 5th Triennial Delegates Conferences (TDC) here yesterday (April 23).

Majang who is also chairman of the Conference Organising Committee said that PRS greatly appreciated and recognised the role, desires, and voices of young people in line with the government policy.

“This is shown through our support to implement Undi 18 based on the practice or system of constitutional democracy.

“I hope all parties will always work together with the involvement of youths at the grassroots level so that the impact will be more comprehensive as policymakers and determinants of the direction of this party,” he said.

The Samalaju assemblyman also said that the party needed a strong women and youth wings from both the physical and mental aspects.

“Your contribution will be the strength for us to continue to develop in political, economic, and socio-cultural aspects.

Therefore, he said, various efforts need to be focused on and given attention, including increasing one’s capacity and efficiency for the survival of the party.

“This needs to be done as a step for us to look at the challenges of the future that will be greater.”

He called on all those who participated in the conference this time to use the opportunity and space available to exchange views and opinions so that together they could reach a consensus.

“It is undeniable that in a political party or any organisation, there are times when there are different views among its members. PRS also did not run away from a similar situation.

“Nevertheless, as a large family under the auspices of PRS, I invite us to strengthen our unity and foster harmony among party members,” he said.

Also present were the PRS Youth chief Datuk Snowdan Lawan and Women chief Datuk Seri Sophia Brodie.
