curfew for youths under 18 years of age past a certain time at night.

They believe the proposal could help prevent youths from engaging in social problems.

A 52-year-old father, Jampi Budul, said the government should seriously consider implementing it, especially on youths under 18 years of age.

A mother, Anis Dana, admitted it’s easier said than done but expressed the hope that the government could look for the best solution to have it implemented.

“I believe it is necessary and would be able to help youngsters from being involved in social problems such as illegal racing, drug issues and many other social problems,” she added.

Another mother, who wished to be identified only as Empina, said the curfew would certainly be effective in efforts to fight social problems among youths.

She noted that the proposal would certainly go a long way to ensuring the country could produce quality youths as the nation’s second echelon and future leaders.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail announced the proposal at a press conference after chairing the cabinet committee meeting on the eradication of drugs at Perdana Putra in Putrajaya on Thursday.

She said the committee was seriously considering imposing a curfew on those below 18 years of age to prevent them from getting involved in drugs, as was done in Iceland.

She said Malaysia could implement the curfew based on the model by Iceland, but several matters had to be considered before any decision could be made.

She said they were looking at the possibility of setting a time limit for young Malaysians to be out of the house without adult supervision, to shield them from negative activities and influences.
